The following are a series of quotes from chiropractic founder Dr. D.D. Palmer. Although these quotes were stated 100 years ago or more, they are still true to this day:

I claimed to be the first person to adjust a vertebra by hand, using the spinous and transverse processes and levers. I developed the art known as adjusting, and formulated the science of chiropractic, and developed its philosophy. Dr. D.D. Palmer

– Life is the expression of tone. In that sentence is the basic principle of Chiropractic.

– I feel it my bounden duty to not only replace displaced bones, but also teach others, so that the physical and spiritual may enjoy health, happiness and the full fruition of our earthly lives. Dr. D.D. Palmer

– The basic principles of chiropractic which have been developed from it are not new. They are as old as the vertebrae… I am not the first person to replace subluxated vertebra, for this art has been practiced for thousands of years. Dr. D.D. Palmer

– I desired to know why one person was ailing and his associate, eating at the same table, working in the same shop, at the same bench was not. Why? What difference was there in these two persons that caused one to have various diseases, while his partner escaped? Dr. D.D. Palmer

– Chiropractors correct abnormalities of the intellect as well as those of the body. Dr. D.D. Palmer – Many patients imagine that they have tried everything. True, they have used many remedies, but they have never had the cause of their infirmity adjusted. Dr. D.D. Palmer

– That which I named ‘innate’ is a segment of that intelligence which fills the universe. Dr. D.D. Palmer

– Life is but the expression of spirit through matter. To make life manifest requires the union of spirit and body. Dr. D.D. Palmer – Innate is a segment of the All-Wise; Educated is an offspring of innate, a servant for its lifetime only. Educated continues with and lasts as long as life exists; Innate is eternal, always was and always will be. Dr. D.D. Palmer

– Disease is a disturbed condition, not a thing or entity. Dr. D.D. Palmer – Disease is the abnormal performance of certain functions; the abnormal activity has its causes. Dr. D.D. Palmer

– Displacement of any part of the skeletal frame may press against nerves, which are the channels of communication, intensifying or decreasing their carrying capacity, creating either too much or not enough functioning, an aberration known as disease. The nature of the affection depends upon the shape of the bone, the amount of pressure, age of patient, character of nerves impinged upon and the individual makeup. Dr. D.D. Palmer

– Pressure on nerves causes irritation and tension with deranged functions as a result. Why not release the pressure? Why not adjust the cause instead of treating the effects? Why not? Dr. D.D. Palmer

– Do not forget that chiropractors did not treat diseases. They adjust causes, whether acquired, spontaneous, or the result of accident. Dr. D.D. Palmer

– Drugs are delusive; they do not adjust anything. Dr. D.D. Palmer

– Compulsory vaccination is an outrage and a gross interference with the liberty of the people in a land of freedom. Dr. D.D. Palmer

– The only failure one man should fear, is the failure to do his best. Dr. D.D. Palmer – There is a vast difference between treating effects and adjusting the cause. Dr. D.D. Palmer

– Chiropractic is founded upon different principles than those of medicine. Dr. D.D. Palmer

Below are a few quotes from Dr. Clarence Selmer Gonstead (chiropractic technique developer)

“It is amazing what one adjustment can do if applied right.”

“X-rays will show misalignment that might cause subluxation that causes nerve pressure.”

“Reposition the vertebra to take pressure off of the nerve and you will get sick people well.”

“If there is no nerve pressure to any gland or organ, the body can produce any drug it needs.” “The right number and kind of adjustments can set the stage for nature to heal; too many adjustments in the wrong place can undo any good that was done and slow down the healing mechanism.”

“One of the most important skills a chiropractor needs to develop is the ability to find nerve pressure –to find it exactly, specifically, where it is on each patient. If a chiropractor is not removing nerve pressure, he is not practicing chiropractic. The science and art of removing nerve pressure, and the results obtained, will stand the scrutiny of even the most resolute opponent.”

“The most important part of getting people well is to take your time, give them the utmost of your ability as a chiropractor, and find the correct subluxation. Accept it. Correct it. Leave it alone.” First—“Spend all the time necessary to carefully and precisely find and correct a patient’s problem. Do not be in a hurry. Check and recheck your x-ray, your palpation, instrumentation, motion palpation, and visualization.” Second—“Remember that Chiropractic always works. When it does not seem to, examine your application, but do not question the principle.” Third—“Be prepared when demand for Chiropractic care increases. Study the spinal column and the nervous system every chance you get.”

“Our future will be our results.”

“Bernard was right. The germ is nothing, the terrain is everything.” ~Louis Pasteur, father of the Germ Theory Pasteur allegedly made this admission on his deathbed, admitting that his germ theory was wrong and the theory of his contemporary Claude Bernard (focused on the environment within, the “terrain”) was right. Even if Pasteur did not actually utter these words, the “Germ Theory” on which all of today’s orthodox medicine is based, is incorrect. Germs don’t cause disease, their growth results from disease. In effect, flies don’t attract garbage cans, garbage cans attract flies. This is the most important and overriding healthcare concept to understand if one really desires true health and wellness.

“Nature is the thing that heals. Drugs never cure disease, they merely hush the voice of nature’s protest and pull down the danger signals she erects along the pathways of transgression. Any poison taken into the system has to be reckoned with later on, even though it palliates the present symptoms. Pain may disappear, but the patient is left in a worse condition, though unconscious of it at the time.” ~Daniel H Kress, medical doctor

“Chiropractic care has been instrumental in my life, both on and off the field and I am excited to share this with the American public. I have been blessed with a long and healthy career as a professional athlete and as I move forward into the next stage of my life, chiropractic care will continue to be an important part of my game.” ~Jerry Rice, all-time NFL great

“Our body is a machine for living. It is organized for that, it is its nature. Let life go on in it unhindered and let it defend itself, it will do more than if you paralyze it by encumbering it with remedies.” ~Leo Tolstoy, author

“A healthy body is the guest-chamber of the soul; a sick, its prison.” ~Francis Bacon, philosopher, scientist, jurist, author

“Until man duplicates a blade of grass, nature can laugh at his so-called scientific knowledge…” ~Thomas Edison, inventor

“The art of medicine consists of amusing the patient while Nature cures the disease.” ~Votaire, writer, historian, philosopher

“Bodybuilders and fitness people have been using, very extensively, chiropractors in order to stay healthy and fit. Whenever I had a little problem with my body, I always ran to one of my dear friends (Franco Columbo, DC), he was always right there with the adjustments. This is how I found out the best way of going is to use chiropractors, not only after injuries but also before injury.” ~Arnold Schwarzenegger, actor, former governor of California

“Optimum nutrition is the medicine of tomorrow.” ~Dr. Linus Pauling, 48 PhDs and only person to win two unshared Nobel Prizes (peace and chemistry)

“The natural force in each one of us is the greatest force in getting well.” ~Hippocrates, the father of modern medicine

“90% of the stimulation and nutrition to the brain is generated by the movement of the spine.” ~Dr. Roger Sperry, neurobiologist and Nobel Laureate in Medicine

“All body systems would be immobilized without the nervous system. It controls and regulates every bodily activity down to the workings of the tiniest cell.” ~World Book Encyclopedia of Medicine

“An intact nervous system will lead to optimum functioning of the human body.” ~Dorland’s Medical Text “Health”

“A state of complete physical, mental, and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” ~World Health Organization

“If it were not for chiropractic, I would not have won the gold medal.” ~Dan O’Brien, Olympic gold medal decathlete
