Clinic History
Asheville Chiropractic & Wellness Center, in its original form, was established in the fall of 1948 by Dr. Charles Patton, DC. He was the maternal grandfather of Dr. Brian Gualano, DC and a June 1948 graduate of Lincoln Chiropractic College located in Indianapolis, Indiana. In September of 1945, after serving and being discharged from the Air Force where he was a World War II bombardier pilot, Charles Patton immediately entered chiropractic college. Upon graduation in 1948, with his doctorate in hand, Dr. Patton located to Asheville with his wife and young daughter and opened The Patton Clinic of Chiropractic on Haywood Road.
“Do not forget that Chiropractors do not treat diseases. They adjust causes, whether acquired, spontaneous, or the result of accident.” Dr. D.D. Palmer, the Founder of Chiropractic-1895
At the time, he was one of only two Chiropractors in Asheville. Slowly his practice and reputation as a healer grew to such an extent that in 1968 he committed to building a clinic devoted solely to the practice of Chiropractic. The current office building located at 553 Haywood Road was the only structure of its kind (a free standing chiropractic office) in Western North Carolina at the time. Thus began Asheville Chiropractic Center, PA.
Dr. Charles Patton continued to build a thriving practice helping thousands of patients and mentoring many young Doctors of Chiropractic until October of 1994 when Drs. Brian and Tracy Gualano ultimately purchased the practice after they themselves apprenticed and interned for two years. After practicing for 46 years, Dr. Patton continued to mentor Dr. Brian Gualano for seven years until his passing in October of 2001, leaving behind a legacy of service that helped transform countless lives.
